Overview

Connect Squarespace Commerce so AI clients can read and update the merchant site you authorize: products, orders, inventory, contacts, discounts, and transactions. Use this integration when you need a Squarespace MCP server, Squarespace OAuth for ChatGPT or Claude, or a governed way to connect Squarespace to AI agents without a custom connector.

Common use cases

  • Squarespace MCP for Cursor or Claude Desktop - point your client at POST /mcp/squarespace with a stackgate.ai bearer token.
  • Connect Squarespace to ChatGPT - use any HTTP MCP client; OAuth grants the commerce scopes you approve.
  • Private gateway - access Squarespace alongside Trello, Gmail, and other tools through one MCP connection with squarespace__* namespaced tools.

Prerequisites

  • A Squarespace site with Commerce
  • A stackgate.ai account
  • For OAuth: a Squarespace OAuth client registered for this hub (hub operators set SQUARESPACE_CLIENT_ID and SQUARESPACE_CLIENT_SECRET)
  • For API key fallback: Commerce Advanced Developer API Keys on the site

Getting credentials

OAuth (recommended)

  1. Sign in to stackgate.ai.
  2. Go to Integrations and open Squarespace.
  3. Click Activate, then Connect Squarespace. Choose full access or a scoped tool set.
  4. On Squarespace, approve the requested website.* scopes. Hub-initiated connect does not send website_id.

OAuth access tokens last about 30 minutes. Refresh tokens rotate on every refresh and idle-expire after 7 days. The hub refreshes tokens daily so idle connections stay alive. If a call still returns 401, disconnect and reconnect Squarespace.

Developer API Key (fallback)

If OAuth is not configured on this hub, create a Developer API Key under Settings → Advanced → Developer API Keys and paste it on the Squarespace integration page. API keys do not expire.

Using with AI clients

  • Dedicated endpoint: POST /mcp/squarespace with a Sanctum bearer token
  • Private gateway: one config for all integrations - use squarespace__* namespaced tools

Troubleshooting

  • 422 integration not configured - complete Connect Squarespace OAuth or save a Developer API Key in My Integrations.
  • 401 reconnect - the OAuth refresh token expired (7-day idle) or was revoked. Reconnect Squarespace.
  • 403 - the connected token lacks Write scopes. Reconnect and choose Write (or the matching tools).
  • 429 - Squarespace allows 300 requests per minute. Wait about a minute and retry.
  • Product create fails for DIGITAL - Squarespace does not support creating or deleting DIGITAL products via the API. Use PHYSICAL, SERVICE, or GIFT_CARD.
  • Missing storePageId - call list_store_pages before create_product.
  • Inventory adjust rejected - send a unique idempotency_key and at least one increment, decrement, set_finite, or set_unlimited operation.

Available tools

  • get_website

    Return the connected Squarespace site profile (id, title, url, currency, time zone).

  • list_store_pages

    List store pages. Use storePageId from this list when creating products.

  • list_products

    List products (up to 50 per page) ordered by modifiedOn. Filter by date range, type, or search query.

  • get_products

    Get specific products by comma-separated IDs (up to 50), including variants and images.

  • create_product

    Create a PHYSICAL, SERVICE, or GIFT_CARD product. DIGITAL create is not supported. Requires store_page_id from list_store_pages.

  • update_product

    Partially update a product (name, description, visibility, tags, slug, SEO).

  • delete_product

    Delete a product. DIGITAL products cannot be deleted via the API.

  • create_product_variant

    Create a variant on a product. Physical/service products need attributes defined first. sku is required.

  • update_product_variant

    Partially update a product variant (sku, pricing, stock, attributes).

  • delete_product_variant

    Delete a product variant.

  • list_orders

    List orders with optional modified-date and fulfillment-status filters. Cursor pagination.

  • get_order

    Get a single order by ID, including line items, customer, and fulfillments.

  • fulfill_order

    Create a fulfillment for an order. Optionally send a customer notification and attach shipments.

  • list_inventory

    List variant inventory stock levels. Cursor pagination.

    Adjust variant stock. Provide at least one of increment, decrement, set_finite, or set_unlimited operations. Requires a unique idempotency_key.

  • query_contacts

    Search contacts with a filter object (email, name, and similar fields).

  • get_contact

    Get a single contact by ID, including address book and marketing preferences.

  • create_contact

    Create a contact. Squarespace requires first_name, last_name, locale, and email (sent as primaryEmail).

  • update_contact

    Partially update a contact (JSON merge patch). Provide at least one of first_name, last_name, locale, email, or accepts_marketing.

  • list_discounts

    List discounts with offset/limit pagination.

  • get_discount

    Get a single discount by ID.

  • create_discount

    Create a discount. Pass a discount object with name, amount, and eligibility fields as required by Squarespace.

  • update_discount

    Replace a discount. Pass the full discount object (Squarespace uses PUT, not a partial POST).

  • delete_discount

    Delete a discount by ID.

  • list_transactions

    List financial transactions for orders and donations. Cursor pagination.

  • get_transaction

    Get a single transaction by ID.
