Overview
List, read, and edit Google Slides presentations on a connected Google account.
AI clients can find a deck, read slide text, create a blank presentation, add slides, replace placeholder text, insert text into a shape, and delete a slide or shape.
Prerequisites
- A Google account with Google Slides
- A stackgate.ai account
Getting credentials
- Open Integrations → Google Slides.
- Click Activate, then Sign in with Google.
- Approve access to your presentations and Drive file names (needed to list decks).
- Return to My Integrations. The integration is ready for AI clients.
Google Slides uses the same sign-in as other Google integrations on stackgate.ai. You do not paste an API key.
Using with AI clients
- Dedicated endpoint:
POST /mcp/google-slides - Private gateway:
google-slides__*tools
Typical workflow: list presentations, read a deck, then create or edit slides. create_presentation stores the title only. Add slides and text with the write tools. Pass revision_id from a read when you want an edit to fail if someone else changed the deck.
See Documentation for HTTP authentication and private gateway setup.
Troubleshooting
- 401 or 403 - reconnect Google Slides from My Integrations.
- 404 - the presentation id is wrong, or the file is not shared with the connected account.
- 429 - wait and retry. Thumbnail calls use a smaller per-minute quota, so avoid fetching previews in a loop.
- Empty list - the connected account has no Slides files, or consent did not include permission to list Drive file names.
- Text edit did nothing -
replace_all_textmatches exact text. Read the deck first.insert_textneeds a shape id from that read. - New slide has no text boxes you can target yet - read the presentation after
add_slideto get placeholder ids. - Reconnect keeps the previous refresh token - if Google omits a refresh token, stackgate.ai keeps the previous one. If tools still fail auth, disconnect and connect again.
Available tools
-
list_presentations
List Google Slides presentations the connected account can see. Optional name matches a substring of the file name.
-
get_presentation
Get a presentation title, revision id, and each slide object id with shape text. Masters and layouts are omitted.
-
get_slide
Get one slide, including shape object ids and text.
-
get_slide_thumbnail
Get a short-lived thumbnail URL for one slide. The URL expires quickly. Each call spends Google expensive-read quota (about 60 per minute per user).
-
create_presentation
Create a blank Google Slides presentation with a title. Slide content is added afterwards with add_slide, replace_all_text, or insert_text.
-
add_slide
Add one slide to a presentation using a predefined layout. Read the new slide with get_presentation to learn placeholder object ids.
-
replace_all_text
Replace exact text across a presentation, or only on the slides listed in page_object_ids. Use this to fill template placeholders.
-
insert_text
Insert text into an existing shape. object_id comes from get_presentation or get_slide. New slides do not expose placeholder ids until you read them.
-
delete_object
Delete a slide or page element by object id.
