Example questions

Try asking your AI client

  • Which GoDaddy domains expire in the next 60 days?

  • Is sunrise-bakery.com available, and what does GoDaddy quote in cents?

  • Show A and TXT records for the marketing domain - do not change them.

  • Write a draft DNS change to point www at 203.0.113.10 - do not create it yet.

  • Did auto-renew ever get turned off for example.com?

Overview

Connect GoDaddy so AI clients can list your registered domains, check availability, and manage DNS on GoDaddy-hosted zones through the GoDaddy Domains API.

stackgate.ai stores your personal access token encrypted and calls https://api.godaddy.com on your behalf. Tool results are returned to your AI client for that request. This integration does not register, renew for a fee, transfer, or auction domains.

Prerequisites

  • A GoDaddy account that owns at least one domain (or has management access)
  • A stackgate.ai account

Getting credentials

  1. Sign in to the GoDaddy developer platform.
  2. Open Personal Access Tokens and click Generate Token.
  3. Name the token (for example stackgate) and set an expiration you are comfortable with.
  4. Grant the minimum scopes you need:
    • domains.domain:read for listing domains, details, availability, and DNS reads
    • domains.dns:update to create, replace, or delete DNS records
    • domains.domain:update to toggle transfer lock or auto-renew
    • domains.nameserver:update to replace authoritative nameservers
  5. Copy the token once. GoDaddy will not show it again.
  6. In stackgate.ai, open My Integrations → GoDaddy, paste the token, and click Connect & enable.
  7. Use Edit tool access after connect if you want Read-only tools even when the PAT can write.

Treat the token like a password. Revoke it in the developer dashboard if it is exposed, then paste a new token in My Integrations.

Do not use the classic developer key (sso-key). v3 Domains APIs require a Personal Access Token.

Optional: set API base URL to https://api.ote-godaddy.com only when you are targeting GoDaddy's OTE environment. Leave it blank for production.

Using with AI clients

  • Dedicated endpoint: POST /mcp/godaddy with a Sanctum bearer token
  • Private gateway: one config for all integrations - use godaddy__* namespaced tools

See Documentation for HTTP authentication and private gateway setup.

Suggested workflow

  1. list_domains - find registered domains (lifecycle_groups=REGISTERED for inventory).
  2. get_domain - inspect expiration, lock, auto-renew, nameservers, and contacts.
  3. list_dns_records - inspect GoDaddy-hosted DNS; save recordId before updates.
  4. create_dns_record / replace_dns_record / delete_dns_record - mutate DNS (TTL minimum 600).
  5. check_availability / suggest_domains - look up names you do not own yet. Prices are indicative (cents).
  6. update_domain_settings - toggle lock or auto-renew. Unlock only for a transfer, then lock again.
  7. replace_nameservers - only when you explicitly want DNS to leave GoDaddy.

Troubleshooting

  • 422 integration not configured - paste a personal access token in My Integrations.
  • 401 Unauthorized - the token expired or was revoked. Generate a new PAT and update My Integrations.
  • 403 Forbidden - the PAT is missing a required scope, or the account is not eligible (for example no domains). Check the code field in the tool error.
  • 409 Conflict - you tried to change a GoDaddy-managed SOA or NS record, or a conflicting domain operation is in progress.
  • 429 Too many requests - GoDaddy limits each PAT (currently about 600 calls per ~23-minute window). Wait for RateLimit-Reset and paginate instead of walking pages in parallel.
  • DNS tools return 404 - the domain must use GoDaddy nameservers. After replace_nameservers, manage DNS at the new provider.
  • Availability prices look wrong - values are in cents and are indicative. This integration does not purchase domains.

Available tools

  • list_domains

List domains registered to the connected GoDaddy account.

  • get_domain

Get registration details for one domain you own, including expiration, lock, auto-renew, nameservers, and contacts.

  • check_availability

Check whether a domain is available to register, with indicative per-term pricing in cents. Does not purchase the domain.

  • suggest_domains

Suggest available domain names for a keyword or natural-language query, with indicative pricing in cents.

  • list_dns_records

List DNS records for a GoDaddy-hosted zone. Filter by type and name. Records include recordId for updates and deletes.

  • create_dns_record

Create a DNS record in a GoDaddy-hosted zone. Changes apply synchronously. Save recordId from the response for later updates.

  • replace_dns_record

Fully replace a DNS record. All writable fields must be supplied. GoDaddy-managed SOA and NS records cannot be replaced.

  • delete_dns_record

Permanently delete a DNS record by recordId. GoDaddy-managed SOA and NS records cannot be deleted.

  • update_domain_settings

Update domain lock (clientTransferProhibited) and/or auto-renew. Unlock only for a transfer, then lock again. Does not charge for renewal.

  • replace_nameservers

Replace authoritative nameservers for a domain (2-13 hostnames). This moves DNS off GoDaddy zones. Propagation is asynchronous (202).
