Dropbox
Connect Dropbox to Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor via MCP. OAuth, file search and download, small uploads, and shared links through a governed private gateway.
Example questions
Try asking your AI client
-
List the files in my Dropbox root.
-
Search Dropbox for invoices from this year.
-
Download the brief in /Shared into temp storage so I can read it.
-
Write a short note and upload it to /Notes/meeting.txt.
-
Create a view link for /Shared/brief.pdf.
Overview
Connect Dropbox to give AI clients access to the files in your Dropbox account. This is the hosted Dropbox MCP integration for Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, and other MCP clients.
Common use cases
- File search - list a folder or search by name, then open metadata before downloading.
- Handoff - download a file into temp storage so another integration can read it.
- Light edits - create folders, upload small text files, move, copy, or delete after you confirm.
- Sharing - list or create a view link for a file or folder.
Prerequisites
- A Dropbox account
- A stackgate.ai account
Getting credentials
- Sign in to stackgate.ai.
- Go to Integrations and open Dropbox.
- Click Activate, choose tool access (standard or scoped), then Connect Dropbox.
- Approve the Dropbox prompt. stackgate.ai stores your tokens and refreshes them when they expire.
The hub Dropbox app uses Full Dropbox access. If your organization uses an App folder app instead, AI can only see files under /Apps/{app name}.
Using with AI clients
- Dedicated endpoint:
POST /mcp/dropboxwith a Sanctum bearer token - Private gateway: one config for all integrations - use
dropbox__*namespaced tools
See Documentation for HTTP authentication and private gateway setup.
Troubleshooting
- 422 integration not configured - finish Connect Dropbox in My Integrations.
- Authentication failed - disconnect and connect Dropbox again so a fresh refresh token is stored.
- path/not_found - list the root with an empty path (
""). Other paths start with/. - Only the app folder is visible - the Dropbox app is limited to App folder access. Full Dropbox access is required to see the rest of the account.
- 429 rate limit - wait for the Retry-After time, then try again. Avoid parallel writes to the same folder.
- Upload too large -
upload_fileaccepts files up to 10 MB. - Missing write tools - turn on Write access, or include write tools when you choose scoped tool access.
