Overview

Look up cryptocurrency prices, market rankings, historical charts, trending coins, and global market stats via the CoinGecko Demo API.

Market data by CoinGecko.

Prerequisites

  • A stackgate.ai account
  • A CoinGecko Demo API key or access to a hub configured with COINGECKO_API_KEY

Getting credentials

Option A — Hub-wide key (no personal key needed)

If your stackgate.ai operator has configured a hub-wide CoinGecko Demo API key, you can activate this integration without entering any credentials:

  1. Open My Integrations → CoinGecko.
  2. Click Connect & enable without filling in the API key field.

All users without a personal override share the hub key's monthly Demo credits and daily hub fair-use limits.

Option B — Personal CoinGecko Demo API key

Use your own Demo plan credits:

  1. Sign up at CoinGecko API pricing (free Demo plan, no credit card).
  2. Copy your Demo API key from the Developer Dashboard.
  3. In stackgate.ai, open My Integrations → CoinGecko.
  4. Paste your key in CoinGecko API key (optional override) and click Connect & enable.

Using with AI clients

  • Dedicated endpoint: POST /mcp/coingecko with a Sanctum bearer token
  • Private gateway: use coingecko__* namespaced tools (for example coingecko__search_coins)

Typical workflow: search coins → simple price or markets → get coin details → market chart / OHLC → trending or global stats.

Troubleshooting

  • 422 integration not configured — activate CoinGecko under My Integrations. If no hub key is configured, you must provide a personal Demo API key.
  • 401 Unauthorized — your API key is invalid, or you submitted a Pro key against the Demo base URL. Use a Demo key from the CoinGecko Developer Dashboard.
  • 429 Too many requests / Hub quota exceeded — you hit CoinGecko's per-minute rate limit or the stackgate.ai hub daily fair-use limit. Wait and retry, or add your own Demo API key under My Integrations.
  • 404 not found — verify the CoinGecko coin id from search_coins (ids like bitcoin, not only tickers like BTC).
  • Attribution — when publishing products on this data, follow CoinGecko's API terms and attribution requirements.

Available tools

  • search_coins

    Search CoinGecko for coins, categories, exchanges, and NFTs by query. Use returned coin `id` values with other tools.

  • get_simple_price

    Get current prices for one or more coins by CoinGecko ids, names, or symbols.

  • list_coin_markets

    List coins with market data (price, market cap, volume). Paginate with page and per_page (max 250).

  • get_coin

    Get full metadata and market data for a coin by CoinGecko id.

  • get_coin_market_chart

    Get historical price, market cap, and volume chart data for a coin. Demo API history is limited to ~365 days.

  • get_coin_ohlc

    Get OHLC (open/high/low/close) candlestick data for a coin. Demo API history is limited to ~365 days.

  • list_trending

    List trending search coins, NFTs, and categories on CoinGecko in the last 24 hours.

  • get_global_market

    Get global cryptocurrency market data including total market cap, volume, and BTC dominance.
